About Us

Childs' Farm Made On The Farm

Preserving Our  Heritage

Here on the farm we have a few crafts that we offer to you.

While there may be "simpler or less time consuming ", ways to   make soap, rugs etc .we feel they are not as rewarding.  We think that is something that is missing in the 21st century.  A young boy or girl plays their video game for 2 hours and suddenly they are, "expert", the game tells them so.  They do not want to sit at something for a day or two, let along for a week.  We try to show them that there are some things that can be rewarding even if you never get to," expert".  You never know we might have a demonstration that day , or some hands on work for the children.  Just give us a call and we will tell you what is going on that day.

Soap!! We make our own soap, or should I correctly say, Grandma makes our soap. I can't remember the last time we had to buy any at the store.  We have  bars all wrapped and ready for you to take home.

(I highly recommend this product for all young boys that don't wash behind their ears)

Handweaving.  One of the misconceptions we find is that people think that weaving is a woman's job.  However through out history you will find that all your Master Weavers were men.  Fortunately, at least for me, on our farm,  that is not the case.  You will find Grandma's four shaft loom in the craft house.  If she has it warped (a process that could take a half hour to explain, and a lot longer to accomplish), she might be making rugs or place mats or something else that you might purchase.

 School And Group Tours

We can arrange a tour of the farm for your class, or group, and include one or more of the activities and/or demonstrations, some hands on.  We can customize each tour for your groups needs.  We also have two of  standard tours that we offer, "Where our food comes from", and, "Life on the farm 100 years Ago" If you are interested please call 574-936-9262 and we can talk about your specific needs  and schedule your group.
